Have put this post in Picture Gallery as well, but he did a few competitions so thought he deserved to go in the competition area as well!! Here is my dear friend Golly who I have had from 5mths old. I have done everything with him, I broke him taught him to jump etc etc and he is an absolute diamond, he won his first test with 74%. He is related to Moonfleet so was really looking forward to be able to event him, he had great paces and a lovely text book technique over a fence. He is only 5years old so has had a very short but enjoyable life. He has navicular in all four feet and I have been offered no treatment for him as it will just get worse and worse even in the field. So he will be going to horsey heaven in Friday. Here are some pictures of my gorgeous and very talented friend.

Such a shame - poor you. It always seems to be the nice ones who develop it.

Tell me about it!! The horse I have just sold who was horrid, he napped, was cold backed, very talented but just didnt want to know, he made me have many upseting rides!! He was as sound as a pound and never lame! And my little Golly who was soo soo well behaved and willing has this, its just heart breaking.

What a dreadful thing to happen, I've never heard of this so bad in such a young horse before. It makes it so much worse that he is such a potentially top class horse.
Hugs to you, of course you're doing the right thing and the kindest thing for him, but what a sad day for you to face.
You must tell yourself he had an excellent life with you.
just for my own interest, was he stabled for a lot of his life up to now or did he grow up outside ?

He spent most of his time out, just stabled for about 10 hrs at night when it was really wet. So not soent much time in really, and spent one winter out 24hrs when I borrowed a field. Vet says he was probably born with it

How upsetting for you. It is a brave decision that you are making. He is a lovely looking horsey. Stunning. You have done a great job at bringing him up. My heart goes out to you.

So sorry to hear about your fab horse having to be put down because of navicular. My last horse, which I purchased as a jumper, developed the same thing. He was 9 yrs old and we had to put him down as all we could do at the end was hack out on forgiving ground. I did not ride for 6 yrs after this - it was too upsetting. His name was True Gentleman -- and he was !! My sympathies are with you.
