My brother got a rescue GSD this August. He was about a year old, no history, great with people but abit dog aggresive. When they got him he would not go through doors, but with abt of patience he improved loads and turning out to be a loving dog. They signed for hm to be castrated. He was taken to the vet today, a healthy (as far anyone could tell) dog, to be castrated. He was a rig. It is so sad as he died on the operating table after 25 minutes. His heart stopped. It is so sad.

Oh, so sorry to hear this :(
Well done to your brother for rescuing and trying to do the best by this fella.

I still do think he did the right thing in booking the op, though, it may sound like cold comfort but undescended/retained bits can cause huge problems in later life, no one was to know what would happen.

Thanks for your thoughts. i too think he did the right thing and will be getting our JrtX rescue bitch done when she's had her first season. Does anyone know if neutering a rig is alot risky than usual?

So sorry to hear this, sometimes all the wrong things happen to all the wrong people. He did everything right.

There are a few more complications with neutering a chryptorchid compared to a 'normal' dog and it is generally recommended that it is done sooner rather than later, I seem to recall.
