My fantastic little mare has come in with a fat leg. Same leg as she did some damage to 4 years ago, but swelling is in a different place. Can't persuade myself if that is good or bad.

Box rest & bute, and the vet is out on Wednesday to microchip my foal.

Fingers tightly crossed for her - shes awesome, and was out bloodhounding on Sunday. She is 20 now, so I'm very worried.

Because I'm feeling indulgent, here she is

Thank you both - It was yesterday I found it, and she wasn't overly keen to weight bear, and was resting it lots. Walked up sound, trotted up short.

More willing to stand on it today, so I'm taking that as a positive, even though my head knows thats probably the bute.

Daft creature was fine on Monday after Sundays exertions, but went out like something possessed yesterday.

They can be such a worry

My TB did a suspensory in the field a few years back - galloped at the fence .... and then sat down in the mud as he skidded to a dramatic halt! Daft idiot! Made a full recovery though, thankfully

Fingers crossed for your lovely mare

I guess you have checked for cuts?

Daughter took her young horse to hound exercise and 2 days later he had a fat leg, which is when i discovered a tiny cut above his knee. 5 days of antibiotics sorted it put in no time.

Hope your mare will soon be ok, she looks fab.

I've checked as well as I can without clipping her legs - I'd need to have her knocked out for that, I have to use Sedalin and a twitch to get her body done. One of my first thoughts was a blackthorn or similar.

I'll give them another wash tommorrow - I washed them on Sunday but she was too wired to go over every square inch. Usually takes her til Tuesday/Wednesday to return to Planet Earth....

Well to update, she has been resting since I posted this, and her leg hasn't just gone down, the swelling has disspeared entirely! Her leg looks normal!!

Keeping her in until Wednesday as the vet is coming anyway, as she had her last bute tonight, so may change between now and then.

Never found a cut or scrape, OH looked too, so she was doubly thoroughly checked.

Thanks for all the crossed fingers!
