Hi, i've decided to sell my pony and whilst I know its for the best for her and me i'm still pretty cut up about it and can't help bursting nto tears every so often. I think my biggest worry is her going to a bad home, what do you say to if a buyer offers you the asking price but you don't want to accept as you don't think it's the right home?

I'm sorry that you have to sell your pony. We will have to sell Toby soon and I am dreading it.

With regards to home/money - If you don't like the people then don't sell him. Try to find the best home you can (but without giving him away!). A good home should always come before the money if you care about him at all.

Good luck.

Hi thanks i'm definately only going to sell her to a good home and tbh if I can't find a good home i'll just keep her even though she's a bit small for me i'm just not quite sure what exactly to say if the buyers not right? I don't want to offend anyone by saying 'sorry I won't sell to you because I don't think you'll give her a good home'
I really wish she'd just grown another hand and then all my problems would be solved

All you need to say is "sorry I've had a change of heart and don't want to sell her after all." I had to do that with two buyers who I knew were not right. Incidentally...I still have him two years later! He does have a loaner though.

Look, I have kept my kid's pony - he's fab, I'm not too heavy tho I feel a bit big on him as mine's a 15 hander - but we have huge fun and it's not a waste. If you can hang on, rather than decide you are selling and that's it, someone may come along who is perfect. If you don't like the people, why on earth would you sell to them???

??? I wouldn't!

How about finding a sharer? I have one of my kids' ponies out on loan to a fab little girl who put up the most unlikely advert for me to take up, but I did and still think 'how wrong can a person be about a first impression?'

Another time, I was at a show and some friends had a young lass with them, simply tagging on because she is horse mad and even though they had nothing for her to ride she went along and helped with the dirty work - well, she comes up and helps with our other pony!

Don't panic, tell yourself it's your decision and if you don't want to sell to a particular home, say she has been kicked or done something else if you can't bear to be honest and say you don't think they would be a suitable home for her. SHE IS YOUR PONY AFTER ALL!

Thanks I'll say that i'm pretty sure it will take a while to find the perfect owner as even though she's a brilliant jumper and I was thinking of doing BSJA with her she is only 13.1 and so obviously it will be mainly children looking at her but as she's only 4 she needs a very calm home and hopefully lots of love and fuss not 'boot them with the legs and whack them with the whip' rider as she is very sensitive. Which is why i'm so worried and teary!

Thanks unfortunately I cant loan her as I wouldn't be able to afford a new horse and due to my age theres lots of competitions I can't do on her and I really think she needs a younger rider to compete with her as she LOVES jumping especially at competitions. If I can find her the perfect loving home with someone who will really love her i'll be happy I just don't want a rider who cares more about the riding than the pony if that makes sense. I'm not actually too heavy for her I odn't think but as I train ponies/horses for other people which are usually 14.2+ every time I get back onto her I feel a bit unbalanced. It's honestly not that I don't love her because I really do please don't get the wrong idea and I will not sell her to a bad owner I just wasn't sure HOW do word saying no to the wrong person.

I know how you feel, I've just put our pony up for sale and am dreading getting any response as I know that I will struggle to let him go, I'll doubt everyone that looks at him

I've also put my own horse up for loan or hoping that I can at least find a sharer preferably.
(((hugs))) its not easy is it.
