Saddle Advice

Got a voicemail from Saddle fitter. She took my old leather saddle to sell, but when they got the saddler to check it they discovered the tree had a crack in it. The girl said that they can no longer sell it due to this defect, however it is fine to ride in or sell privately. She stated clearly that it is not broken

It will cost me £35 to pay for the saddle inspection. She had mentioned to me when I was getting the Thorowgood fitted that it would be possible to get my leathger one re-flocked to fit Tyler. It would cost around £60.

She valued the leather one at around £350 so dont particularly want to sell if for a low price. My questions are as follows:

Would you ride in a saddle that had a crack in the tree, but had been classeds as safe to ride in?

Would you buy the above saddle?

Would I be as well to get the saddle re-flocked and adjust to fit Tyler and keep it back as a good saddle?

It is, from what she said, a good make. Can't remember it, but will try to and out lol.

It sounds like this girl is not a saddler and of course they will not sell it. Neither should you nor should you put it on your horse again. IMOA IT IS BROKEN as you put it. When I had a crack in a saddle I bought secondhand I put an axe through it to stop anyone getting it off the tip and harming some poor horse. The cracks make the saddle nip the horses back.
Sorry if this sounds harsh but please do not put it on yours or anyone elses horse.

Thanks very much for your reply.

I spoke to my RI and she advised I throw the saddle away as well. Her advice was that I wnt to keep it as an emergency fair enough, but it would be dangerous.

So the saddle has to go.

The flower girl was right if you put a broken saddle on your horse you wont just be paying for it to measure
your be paying for you horse to get its back fixed it will cause you no endless of problems .

yes, bin it, very sorry. not worth the risk to your horse's back, or any other horse's back.

If its a really good quality saddle, it may be possible to have it re-treed. Worth enquiring about.
