My horse has been on LWVTB for a trial period of a few weeks, but things have not worked out financially for the potential buyer.

Prior to finding this out, she had said the saddle fitter had been out and fitted a new saddle as after the horse had pulled back and become distressed when being saddled, they think there is a crack in the tree causing discomfort.

However, I had never had this problem when he was with me, is it possible that the saddle has been dropped or something whilst they have had it and caused this problem? If so what can I now do about this when he does come back, as I still need to sell him and I can't afford to fork out for a new saddle before he leaves!

(This all sounds very heartless and business-like but I am trying to keep it that way so I don't become any more of an emotional mess!)

Advice and opinions regarding anything above will all be appreciated.

Firstly I'd get your saddler to check your saddle - then you know what you're dealing with. If you buy a reasonable quality second hand saddle that fits and you look after it you should be able to sell it for what you bought it for after a month or two when your horse is sold.
You haven't got much choice as anyone who wants to buy him will need to try him with a saddle - unless you drop the price and sell 'from the field' and let them ride him bareback.

Sending your tack away while on loan is just one of the risks of loaning sadly, unless loaners admit to causing the damage and offer to pay for it - not much you can do.
