Bought a brand new black country saddle it was a two tone jumping saddle
the seat and knee rolls were havana and the rest was dark brown. Cleaned it with naf soft soap and then conditioned it with equimins balsam and it went all dark brown!!?

doesn't bother me as my tack matches and it won't affect riding in it but just wondering if it will ever go back?

so confused!

I found that using any kind of cream/dubbin/leather food will darken leather. After it wears off/fully soaks/dries in then it goes back

Yes, it should revert back to the original colour when it wears off.Filling the fibres/cells of hide with any moisture, oil more so than fats and waxes will darken hide. It's the price you pay for feeding leather. You could try pure tallow, that may not darken it too much but will suffiently add fat to the hide to keep it in good condition. The white bloom you get on new(good quality) saddlery leather is tallow that is applied at the end of the tanning process and if you rub it with your warm fingers it melts into the hide leaving it nicely conditioned.
