What colour dressage saddle on a bright bay horse? Currently have a brown (well, orange, as it's a Henri de Rivell!) jumping saddle and am starting to look at dressage saddles. I don't think I've actually ever seen a brown DR saddle!

Brown tack suits him far better - is it going to look really odd if I have a brown bridle with a black saddle?! I don't especially want to have to buy a new black bridle since I had to have my (brown) drop noseband made to measure - he apparently has a funny shaped head, nothing off-the-shelf fits! :) I'd have to have a black one made to match a new black bridle, plus I don't like black on a bay horse...

Thanks :)

Whatever fits! If money and horses conformation was not a limiting factor then go for brown but if you have to then go for black. To me the colour doesnt matter and whilst its lovely for things to match, it wont make the horse more comfortable!

Surely it goes without saying that the first priority would be for the saddle to fit?!

I've answered my own question now having found 2 Ideal Jessica's on Ebay in brown, so they do exist at least.

Put another way, i dont care what colour as that is a secondary consideration for me. If there are no limiting factors for choice (i.e. finance or the horses conformation) then go for brown. Otherwise black.

Not sure thats any clearer. But as you have found, you can get brown dressage saddles there are just less of them about, hence less choice of fit.

I like havana. My jump saddle is havana and I have a matching bridle. My dressage saddle is black, and my bridle is black, but it doesn't look nearly as nice. I have a bright bay G and I also thought the brown was a better colour on him than the black. If I was buying again I'd stick with havana all round. I think it suits all colours.
