Saddle depreciation, what percentage of value does saddle loose?

This is deliberately vague as I don't want to risk getting my wrist slapped for advertising!

18 months ago I bought a new £1800 jump saddle (well known brand, off the peg size). This saddle has only been used over a 6 month period once or twice a week for jumping, unfortunately the horse then outgrew it. I was hanging on to it for my youngster, but she has suddenly really widened out and it is not going to fit her.

So what sort of percentage of value would this saddle have lost? It looks brand new, the only place you can see it has been used is on the girth straps where there is a faint line where the girth buckles have been.

I know this is tricky as I am giving you pretty much no information to go on, but a ball park figure would be much appreciated!

Sorry to have to say but I have bought Ideal Impalas and Impala Pros in as new just tried on the horse condition in 17 and 17.5 M, M+ and MW for between half and one third of their orignal cost. That was through ebay. If yours is more desirable than that then you may do better.

Mind you I've also waited for five months for an Impala Pro Jump to turn up in exactly the right size and then given up and bought new - at about month four and a half I'd have paid considerably more had the right saddle turned up.

I think it depends on brand and how quick you want to sell. I lost half of what I paid on an 8 month old Wow recently and £800 on a Black Country Ricochet that was a year old. But I did once make money on a Prestige I'd bought second hand.

No need to apologise, I need honest opinions! I have been looking on preloved, Ebay, Gumtree etc, and have seen a couple the same model as mine but older in used condition with a few scuffs advertised at £900 and £950. Though of course advertised price and what the vendor accepts may be two very different figures!

I don't know what yours is but it might be worth finding out if it can be adjusted/have a new tree. One of the horses and I didn't get on with the Impala Pro Dressage but another of mine seemed to be the sort to really suit it. It was going to be considerably cheaper for me to have a new tree put in the nearly new but less than half price one I already had than to order a new one. In the end the tree was adjusted to fit for even less.

So if you like the saddle it might be worth asking the question:) As I found, you can't always buy them when you want them - and you can bet your bottom dollar if you sell yours and get a low price for it whatever you buy will seem to have kept its value really well :)

I bought a quality English leather saddle yesterday at Reading. Hardly been on a horse from the look of it; perfect condition, beautiful buttery soft leather, pillows for panels. £25.

Perhaps people are still paying for brands, but good saddles are going for nothing atm.

Thanks for the ideas folks. I'm hoping that as it seems a very desirable make and model and is adjustable it should sell for a reasonable price (well given it is now second hand!). Fingers crossed!

Hmmmmmm. Thankfully although I could do with selling it doesn't need to be a quick sale so i'm happy to hold out for a price that is fair for both parties.

Having said that, after the research I have done this evening I now have 2 people interested willing to pay a 4 figure sum (which others of this make and model have gone for recently), as it would seem to be a bit of a 'hens teeth' saddle!
