I have a lovely comfy brown leather saddle, but the colour on the knee rolls and the front of the saddle flaps has faded - it looks much better when i clean it but fades again within a day or so . Any tips please? x
Polish as you would a pair of leather shoes! Brown polish applied with a shoe brush in circular movements to get the polish into the grain of the leather, leave a few mins then buff with another shoe brush! It takes elbow grease and maybe a few go's over a week or so but will do the job! The trick is to buff until no polish is coming off then you know you have done a good job.
If this sounds like too much work get the Grand Prix Leather gloss! Works a treat in the short term but long term not the same results.
Good luck
Don't use oil or shoe polish, others may get away with it but they are not good for saddles. Shoe polish contains solvents which is very drying (shoe leather is different to saddle leather) and oil stretches the fibres. The only way to restore the colour is to have a saddler dye it - it is a specialist job, the leather must be stripped back to be more porous, the right dye must be chosen, and then it must be sealed correctly. I think I'd live with it personally
