hiya i was wonderign if anybody could have alook at 3 saddles on my cob?
He has been in a wintec 2000 for nearly 6 years since he was broken and has never had a problem but in the last few weeks hes been really reluctant to move under saddle but will happily free school etc
We had a saddler but tbh all she did was put a wintec gullet gauge on and said its fine without even checking it on his back and said "hes got the wintec shape" just by looking at him

I have
1) His original wintec - probably 6 years old now with red gullet

2) my other horses wintec 2000, same size 17.5" and same width red- however it seems a completely different size and shape (makign me think somethign is wrong with the original ?

IMO none of those saddles fit

. Also, need to see the clearance when there's a rider on.

The saddler you used sounds awful!

M'thinks you definately need a good saddler out, to see you ride in all saddles and to see if any of them can be flocked/adjusted.

Really they need to be girthed up in the first instance, and then sat on obviously, but imo all 3 of them look too long on him (17.5" just looks too big) and all 3 of the pictures taken from behind show uneven muscle development along his back, so I would be looking at getting all the usual checks done to see if anything is amiss, as well as getting another (decent!) saddler out to sort another saddle.

If you ask for local recommendations on here, I'm sure someone will suggest a good person

as mrs m says, nope no fit! he is alot more built up on his right than his left and would need a saddle fitted and flocked according to this for a start. also all the saddles look a little long for him but without seeing and feeling in the flesh its hard to tell. Other points of fit are tricky to tell without him girthed and ridden and so tricky to see from pics alone. Saddler sounds awful, get another one, what area are you in?

Agree with Mrs M none of them fit. If I was to pick the best it would be the second one. Although I would say this is too long for your horse, it is a better shape, as doesn't trap the shoulder so much.

I would have a decent saddler come out, as, you really need to girth, sit on and ride in a saddle, to see if it suits both you and the horse.

I agree, non of these saddles fits or suits your horse, I'm actually surprised at just how bad the albion is on him, and he most definately does not have a 'wintec' back.

I agree with MM none of those saddles look right. IMO Wintecs are the saddles of riding school horses, if you can stretch to it get a decent saddle fitter out and have one fitted properly better for you but a heck of a lot better for the horse.

Ditto others, none of them fit. Both the wintecs are off the horses back at the back of the saddle, even without a girth. The first saddle looks too narrow in front, the second possibly too wide (although hard to tell as horse not on flat suface). Sitting up at the back will mean the saddle rocks and also increases pressure over a smaller area. The albion is the wrong tree width and the panel doesnt fit, it also sits off the back at the rear of the saddle.

With regards to others saying the muscle development is odd, the horse is not stood square. Nor is he on a totally flat level surface. You cannot compare muscle development accurately if the horse is not stood square. Ditto you need a level hard surafce.
