Hi, I have been trying for a what seems like forever to find a saddle to fit my 13.2hh no wither pony. This seems like the best so far its a GFS 16" xw (34cm). The photos are without it girthed up. Girthed & with me on board it sits down a little more to about 2 1/2 - 3 fingers clearance & without doing the girth up to tightly i am able to mount from the ground! - normally everything rolls around when we are just walking along.

Just wondering weather or not it looks like its close enough to make it worth getting a saddler to check it over & make minor adjustments? or if its another one i need to send back :(

Please excuse the dusty pony!

The only ones i took of it girthed up were with a saddlecloth, not sure how useful that will be.

The one from behind is again ungirthed but the marks in her coat are not from the saddle (saddlecloth has taken an odd shape & is curving downwards at the back)

It looks okay but definitely get a saddle fitter out to check its as good as it can be...
From personal experience I had a saddle that I thought fitted - had a saddler out and was given the O.K. but should look into finding a better fitting on. With this saddle horse started rearing. Changed the saddle and no more rearing!!!

how old is this pony? dont like the look of the fit in the 3rd pic of the first lot. and in the 2nd of the first lot it looks like it could be bridging in the middle. but you can never tell from a photo how a saddle fits, depends on how he is standing, his current weight/build, his age, his amount of work. you eally need to get a good saddler out to check the fit in the flesh.

Hi ofcourseyoucan, She is 23 now! She was retired from "work" at 14 and other than the occasional hack has done very little since then. Last year she had laminitus so the vet advised to bring her out of retirement to keep the pounds off (we will only be hacking). Despite her age she is still rather full of herself & her back hasn't dropped so she is quite table top & everything looks odd on her to me but maybe its because im used to TB's & WB's. Although it does look a bit like it in the photo the saddle isnt bridging what i think you are looking at is the line of stiching which looks like there is a shadow but it is in even contact with her back. It is also brand new so i am guessing the flock will bed down abit? (only had new foam saddles) I will get a saddler out to check over but my local saddler doesn't have anything in stock for us to even try (unless i can spend lots of ££) so i just wanted some opinions to make sure its not an obviously bad fit & waste the fitting fee.

It's always hard to tell from photos, we need to be there to fit it properly and see the horse in action as well as ask loads and I do mean loads of questions!
Get your local Saddler out, that's the best way, Oz :)
