Although technically not from this area - you can book Andy Wheals through the saddle shop in Gateshead. Think he comes over to the NE regularly and does everyone in one swoop. I've not used him but several friends of mine have and I've only ever heard positive feedback about him. The next time my saddle needs checking I will be using him.

STAY AWAY from the so called "master saddler" in Yarm - he is a complete crook!

Hughie in Consett has been absolutely brilliant for me, very friendly, fixed horses' back issues, good value and very knowledgeable. I can't remember the name of his shop, but I can PM you the number.

I've only ever heard fantastic reports of Andy Wheals.
The other person I've had who was good was Jobson of Alnwick, not sure if he comes as far South as Durham. I'll PM you some more info.

I would now only ever use Jobsons from Alnwick or Andy who you can book through the saddle shop in gateshead. This is after having very bad experiences with the same horse with two local saddlers, both resulting in my horse needing time out of work with a bad back and a close friend being sold a saddle with a twisted tree.

If they don't appear on the Master Saddlers Register, please don't use them, they may not be regulated or properly insured if something goes wrong.

P.M. me if you would like to know who they are.
