Was wondering if anyone could recommend a saddle fitter around gloucester area?? I have already had stroud saddlery, was not best impressed after being bucked off of my v quiet youngster twice after a new saddle was fitted and the blame was put on the pony not the saddle! (which was so tight!) I was told it wasn't to tight from a master saddlers point of view, the physios opionion differed greatly lol!! I am back to the original saddle which I backed him in which he is OK in but its not ideal fitting was wondering if anyone had any good experiences with any fitters as I am now dubious about putting new saddles on understandably! lol. Any help would be much appreciated! :)

Hi, even though I actually had a good experience with Stroud Saddlery - I highly recommend Equicraft. Properly priced, very knowledgable and really helpful and friendly. You won't be disappointed. 07831125421. They are a mobile husband and wife team that will come to you with saddles and also look at and alter your own. They seem to combine years of traditional experience with the latest scientific research. Good luck - on the saddle fitting journey!

I too am going to recommend Equicraft, I had them up last Sunday and managed to get a second hand pessoa that fitted just as well as a new one. They asked lots of questions and even filmed me ride so I could watch it back. They spent over an hour and a half with me. Tried a lot of saddles and I found them to be very good, and they took my old saddle off me and will try and sell it. *thumbs up*

I am in the same position as need a new saddle, and was going to suggest Maurice at Colne saddlery. Not tried him yet but was recommended. Where are Equicraft based ?

Last year Stroud Saddlery were at our yard fitting another saddle and I asked them to look at a saddle that I knew didn't fit, I wasn't in a position at that point to buy a new one and wanted suggestions - pad, reflocking etc. which they knew. They said the only option was a new one at about £1600. Not very helpful and charged me for a fitting to tell me what I already knew.

If that had been a vet taking a look at your horse, which you already suspected to be lame, would you also expect it to be done for nothing? I can see nothing wrong with SS charging you and giving an opinion.

Which fitter did you use at Stroud?

laurence is a very good saddle fitter, but I wouldn't use anyone else there!!!!!

I used Carolyn- I basically rang up, new to area and thought master saddler great!! hmmmmm and sceptical about all now!
Susie I have heard mixed reviews about Colne as well rang them up and they didn' t have a selection of wide saddles second hand they only had new!

^^ this! Laurence is fab, but I wouldn't touch anyone else there with a barge pole, I'm afraid I would also totally avoid Colne.

Wasn't objecting to them charging, objected to the amount they charged, when they were already there, their attitude of "Well it doesn't fit", which I had already told them. And you need to buy a new one from us. No compromise of looking for a 2nd hand one. - All of this took less than 2 minutes.

Hi Sorry to hijack this post- but just wondered if Equicraft was still running did a little google search on it and nothing came up (apart from this post :) ). Are the saddles second hand? or is it all just new stuff? want to sort out a XC and DR saddle with a limited budget (under £600 each) for my guy but so many mixed reviews on all the main people... Just liked both recommendations on here. :P
