I've got an Ideal saddle that i would like checking. Horse has been changing shape and isn't at ideal shape yet. Saddle seems to sit well, width ok, only used it about 5 or 6 times. Noticed it is slightly slipping to the left ( i am wonky to the left which isnt helping!) and i'm worried that possibly the tree may not be the right shape for him as opposed to the width as that seems ok.
Have had him in a Wintec isabell for the last 2 years and had this checked last summer when I was looking for a new dressage saddle but they said it was fine and nothing they had (saddles direct) fit him and when I tried a few (Kieffers, albion, anky) nothing that I liked for myself position wise. The isabell doesn't help me that much position wise but its comfortable, thought I could find something better but nothing I tried then I liked. They didn't have bates though which I wanted to try as thought the fitted would be similar to the wintec.
Got the Ideal in January - was an absolute bargain at local saddlery so thought I would get it to try and keep until he's changed shape if necessary. I really like the saddle, i find it nice to sit in and easy to get into the right position and not restrictive, Its got more of a thigh roll rather than a knee roll which is better for me. Horse seemed to go really well in it, better than his wintec. Has had hit and miss schooling over last few months due to ill health but recently come back into work.
have recently changed girth so don't think that has helped (think horse hates his new amerigo sob!) so will revert to the wintec girth and see if it is any better but obviously want to get it checked as don't want it to be causing damage without me knowing.
So I want to have a saddler check this saddle (also have GP that needs checking) and ideally would like them to stock Ideals so can try other models etc. Ideally bates as well.
he is around 16hh, welsh x tb, has decent amount of wither, 17 1/2 medium but has quite wide rib cage and potential for belly! Currently has a bit too much weight just over and behind shoulder which don't think is helping. But working on getting him in shape!
have looked on Ideal website and they list 'Just saddles' in preston - has anyone any experience of them?
any other saddle fitters people recommend?
he's about due for his MOT so going to get back done, teeth etc as well soon.
