hi
Can anyone recommend a saddle fitter that covers Nottingham?

Frankie is a 13.3hh (14hh at a push) barrel with a short back and I'm a short legged large butted rider, I'm worried we will struggle to get a decent saddle at a price that won't kill my student budget. He's currently ridden in a barefoot cheyenne but I'm not sure it's the right option for him.

I've heard good things about Judith Richardson. Not had her myself but spoken to her a few times and she seems very knowledgeable. Really can't recommend anybody else - Nottingham seems to have a dire shortage of saddle fitters.

Bridlepath International come to Nottingham on Tuesdays, even though they are based in Bury St Edmunds. Don't have any contact details but someone on here will

definitely second Bridlepath international - google them for their website as haven't got number to hand.

They are the only people I will trust fitting saddles now, they are fully qualified and have been doing fitting etc for years and years.

Amongst other saddle fitters I also had Bridlepath on a recommendation. In all fairness it was the father who came out and not his daughter. I was ripped off to the tune of £1600 for two saddles which I was concerned about from the start. They didn't seem to fit, slipped around and my horses were not comfortable. I was also concerned about the lack of any second-hand saddles which is what I had specifically asked for and they said they would bring some. Funny enough they only had Barnsby's with them. Twice he came back to bodge the saddles (at £50 per visit) and never once asked to see the horses worked with the saddles on. This is not just my experience either. Four people on the yard (including my EDT who had actually recommended him) said they would never use them again. Just be warned.

I have used Bridlepath and recommended him to several people, all who have been incredibly pleased with Peter and his daughter. They aren't the cheapest, but are definitely one of the best fitters to cover the area. Myself and friends have all brought second hand saddles off him, and he has always had a good range. Have you spoken to Peter about your concerns?

To the OP, the other saddlers in the area worth looking at are Debbie Richardson, and Byron at Retford. Both have a good range, although Byron doesnt have second hand saddles to fit. However, Bridlepath would have the biggest range I reckon :)

I used Bridlepath Intl last year and bought my dressage saddle brand new and they were fab. I did go slightly higher than I had intended to but it was well worth it. I love my saddle and its a perfect fit for my mare. I now want to buy a second hand saddle to try a bit of jumping so possibly a GP and was hoping to spend about £400 but they have quoted me £600 to £700 for a second hand saddle so I neither need to look elsewhere or save a bit more.

anyone used Meynell saddlery? In assuming they arent qaulified but were recommended

agree about the shortage of fitters, so the shortage of saddles around the £ 300-400 mark, I wasted money last year on 3 saddles, non of which now fit on a horse that changes so often

I have recently bought a saddle from harriet havers in newark - very reasonable prices. I have also used Lorna from the Tack Box in Lincoln to alter a couple of my saddles - she does a very good job, although I cant comment on what saddles they sell as havent bought one from her.

My current saddle came from Meynell saddlery but they are quite difficult to get hold of so we use Kick On now as they are much more reliable.

Have used Bridlepath on several occasions & have bought last 2 saddles from them - one new & one second hand. Both Peter & daughter have fitted my TB & several other horses on yard. Not cheapest but always been pleased with what they have done.:)
