Hi there - got saddle fitted last month - It's not right - saddler wants to charge me mileage for visit to put it right.

I paid for fitting and mileage a month ago - Should I be paying more?

Am I being unreasonable?

well yes and no, this time of year a horse can change shape almost weekly with the new grass starting to come through, loosing his coat and more exercise so the saddle may well not fit simply because of all those. However it is usual when fitting a saddle to go back about a month later as the flocking will have bedded down and need to be refitted. That is usually costed in to the original price. However he is not charging you his time, just a mileage charge - so I personally think that is a reasonable compromise.

Horse hasn't changed shape -just not fitted correctly. was flocked off site and posted back in hope it would fit - doesn't.

Can you explain what happened when he came out originally, was the saddle made to measure, did you ride in it, did he take templates, what make of saddle is it. Have you photos of how it sits etc so we can see what the problem is. I know horses change shape extremely fast, and what suits one month may actually not fit the next but taking away and making changes in the hope it sorts a problem out can only actually be done sucessfully by a select few saddlers and they are few and far between.

Im really not sure tbh as the fitter should of been there to make sure it fitted, however if you agreed for them to post it back to you after flocking then they have sort of got you over a barrel.

Think i would pay mileage but i wouldnt be happy paying for time while they where on the yard.

Have to say my saddle fitter adjusts the flocking on site and then we tack up and ask my horse what he thinks of the fit.

Having said that, there are times when saddles to have to go back to the factory for major changes - not had to do that yet so don't know what would happen then.

No complete opposite end of the country -Aberdeen- seems they want to screw you everywhere.

Not impressed - could have been done on site but they were unable so the post it back was the only option.

As soon as I tried it I knew it wasn't right - was told to beat flocking myself - at that point I wondered what I was paying for. Now the offer to visit me(again) if I pay, to get it to fit, which I would have liked in the first place. Not happy will see how it goes!
