Morning all and a happy Monday!
My big lad needs 2 new saddles- a jumping and a dressage saddle. Ive owned him 5 years and never got round to it which sounds terrible but he was professionally produced for me and I never needed a saddle until now!
He is 17.1hh TB who is built like a big warmblood. Quite wide but as he has spent the past 12 months doing absolutely nothing in a field he has no top line to speak of. His wither is quite high and made more pronounced by the lack of muscle across his shoulders and back. My current saddle was fitted for my 15.2hh mare and whilst it looks like it fits im worried that it may be tight across the top of his shoulders which will prevent the muscle developing properly and he will stay hollow looking- something i really dont want!
so my question- i expect him to change shape significantly as he starts to get fitter over the next few months. If i get saddles fitted now am i wasting my time or do i fit now and get refitted in a few months? I have had saddles made narrower in the past but never wider- as he builds up i expect him to need a wider saddle and i have never had any experience making a saddle wider? I was looking at maybe butet for both or else a bates innova saddle for dressage and something else for jumping. if anyone has any experiences of these saddles and maybe what types of horses they suit i would love to hear about them.
thanks!
