Hello

Charisma is having a little break while her owner and I look for a new saddle for her. It is proving rather difficult, because she is such an odd shape! She is croup high (bless her :) ) has a high wither but still needs a med/wide gullet, as anything narrower will pinch. No bigger than 17" because she has a rather short back. Her old saddle used to sit rather low and had a tendency to fall forward onto her shoulder, no wonder she didn't feel like going forward!

Does anyone have any clue as to what saddle we should be looking at? We have had two saddle fitters out and they said we should look for one with a cut away pommel, and mentioned maybe using a Prolite back pad?

Another fitter is coming out on Monday with a few, but any ideas much welcomed!

Im an Ideal fan, had em for years. My young one has 2 - DR and SJ he is croup high (slightly) whithers OK, hes Anglo Arab and can be a pig to fit, short coupled and wide. Ideal have so many tree designs that they can usually make something to fit. Most saddlers sell them so no need to get a specialist out and they arent the most expensive on the market either but fantastic quality

My mare is croup high and has no withers! She has filled out in the 18 months that I have had her, now my Martin Wilkinson Med - wide is slipping to the left constantly which has made her grouchy to girth up (I use a humane girth which has helped) and grouchy in general as I think she is tense and uneven through her back. When I bought her the seller was using a stubben with a gel pad but even then it slipped, I just can't afford to buy a new saddle though, the saddler is coming on Saturday so fingers crossed she has a second hand one to part exchange, otherwise I'll be riding the mare bareback lol!

Look at Balance International. They are the best saddles, and they would be quite happy to fit a D-ring for a crupper (as used by the Spanish Riding School rather than small fat ponies!).
