Can anyone recommend a make/model of saddle for a high withered TB?

At the moment he has a Thorowgood T4 high wither, but recently it's been causing a few issues blocking shoulder movement. He's having physio for it at the moment and I'm wondering whether to try a different make of saddle or get this one adjusted.

He's got the wide tree one and I believe it's already on the widest setting so not sure if much else could be done to change it anyway.

Would be good to hear which saddles you use for your high withered horses to give me some ideas :)

I had my high withered boy in the same as you but had no problem with shoulders and he had a huge shoulder.

Is it possible you have it fitted to far foward and potentially blocking the movement?

Thanks for the suggestion Kokopelli, it's not fitted too far forward though. If only it were that simple ;) I was happy with it to begin with, but since he's changed shape and muscled up a bit more, it's not right for him.

My horse has high withers and huge shoulders, he has a farifax high wither which is great doesn't restrict at all, he also has a bates caprilli which works.

I had the same problem with the t4, to avoid it being bit by his scapula I had to have it so far back that it looked rediculous and was getting too close to the end of the ribs

Saddler came back and I am now the proud owner of a Jeffries Falcon Hawk Event High Wither saddle. It is so comfortable for both of us, the most comfortable saddle I have ever ridden in.

I ended up with an Albion GP Legend for my razor withered beastie but i did try the kent and masters high withered GP aswell and it was purely my peronal liking of the albion that swayed me.

Mine also started off with a hi withered Thorowgood but seemed to perch a little as he muscled up, brill as a starter saddle though.

Great suggestions, thanks so much, I'll go and have a look at some of them before I get the saddler out. I really like the look of the Jeffries as I had a Falcon years ago and loved it.

I assume you have the newer style T4, with the crease in the knee roll and the oval studs? The previous T4 had a much straighter cut flap (with no crease and round studs), but was still available in the high wither design with the changeable gullet and girth straps etc. Might be worth keeping an eye out for one of them.
