Help help help help help!
I have 2 x 16yr old rescued shetlands. Molly is 9hh and Lady is 7.2hh. They both have mummy-tummies and are both backed and good as lead rein ponies. My friend's little 3yr old loves having a ride on them and I'd love to take them to a little local lead-rein class, show everyone what rescued ponies can do! The problem is the saddle. I've got a cub saddle that I thought would fit just about anything. But with 2 unfit, slightly porky, mummy tummy ponies the girth straps/buckles sit right wedged behind the elbow, pinching and probably terribly uncomfortable when they walk. Even done up tight, the saddle slides round sideways and going downhill, it slides forward in a terrifying way, threatening to tip little riders over the neck. I'm looking into a felt pad saddle as they just wrap around the pony's body but a) I think the 2 girth straps/buckles would still end up wedged in the flesh behind the elbow and b) I'm reluctant to rely on a crupper when what I was hoping to find was a tiny-pony saddle that has a balancing strap like eg the Wintec for wide cobs.
Anyone know of anything that works? Both ponies are on very restricted grazing and daily exercise to help get the weight down but the mummy-tummies are likely to be a permanent feature. HELP!!!!!
