Can anyone advise the best saddle for a youngster? She is 3 at the mo and i don't really want to rush out and spend a fortune on one as I know she will grow out of it. I also understand the importance of a correctly fitting saddle. so any ideas on a cheap ish saddle suitable for backing a youngster.

Wintec are fab for backing youngsters and despite peoples phobia (i had one) about synthetic saddles, they are great. I used a 2000 when I backed Ralph and used it until he had formed a shape!

Having had my saddle's stolen in Dec, I have been using a friends Wintec wide until today when my Albian finally arrived and it has been great, if I did not show, I would have bought one

I used a Thorowgood Maxam synthetic to back my youngster. Think it was about £175 and it was great, being lightweight - I still use it occasionally for flat work.

I went and bought one of those saddle company jumping saddles for my 3yo, saddler came out the other day told me it was completely out of balance and not to bother with it, put my other horses albion on him to try and it was perfect! Sods flippin law!
So one useless SC saddle will shortly be frequenting ebay!

I have a close contact wintec saddle for my youngster and i think its great. She changed 2 gullet sizes in 6 months so am really glad i went for a wintec rather than an expensive leather saddler.

I used my Bates GP as it has Cair and is fully adjustable. He has gone from a NM to a MW so it has been a god send. It was also reliltively cheap. I really dislike most synthetic saddles but had the best of both worlds with this. It will be making an appearance on ebay in the next week but feel free to PM me if interested
