Saddle help... 4yr old welshy

Hi all,

I am struggling to find the right saddle for my 4 yr old welshy! She is very wide and flat backed with no wither. I currently have a thorowgood t4 cob with an xw gullet bar in, however I find it really difficult to achieve correct alignment in it and an really not keen!

As she is still growing and changing shape i would like to consider a treeless but only one that looks like a normal treed saddle, although My tb has a dream team treeless which I love on her but when I tried it on my welshy I hated it as it has no twist so felt like I was sitting on a table!

Have considered the saddle company easisit but have heard bad things about it!

Please help, especially welshy owners! I have a limited budget and a confused brain!
 
I've got a GFS VSD (more working hunter type cut) & I think it's their widest tree 6x !! Mine is flatter & wider in front than most horses are across their backs & my saddler has had to shift the back strap to a balance one - horse is now 13 & has had this saddle for over 7 years. I love it.
 
Sadly I had to have one made to measure! However it is super. I do see your point though about a 4 yo changing shape. What about looking on ebay as they generally put the gullet width on, and buy a cheapy until you can get a better one?
 
Guessing you mean the stirrup bars aren't set far enough back for you? The new thorowgoods have a pretty good stirrup bar placement so if you don't like them then you'll need to look at saddle with specically set back stirrups.
You'll struggle to find an easisit as they don't make them anymore but they're good saddles if you can, although quite long in the panel and bit curved at very wide widths. However Heather Moffett has made up with the Saddle Company and is going to make another saddle with them in the not too distant future.

As for treeless, try the Heather Moffett saddle: traditional looking, with a twist, and set back stirrups. They don't suit every horse (strangely designed panels!) but should be ok on wide flat cob.
