Hi

Can anyone help....
I've currently got 2 saddles :

1)Wintec Isabell dressage saddle-saddler just checked-apparently this saddle is a really good fit on my horse..Wide gullet
2) Thorowgood T4 GP saddle. Just checked also-changed to wide/x wide gullet.

Apparently my horse isnt 'easy to fit' a saddle to being as cob-longish back..

I've been feeling really insecure in the T4-i feel like im about to fall off-It feels wobbly and i cant get in the right position..

So...Im thinking of a new GP...being as Wintec Isabell is a good fit, im thinking of going for a Bates VSD or GP..

Does anyone have one?

i want a saddle that i feel snug and secure it...

Anyone got any recommendations pleeeeeease !!

Thanks so much in advance...

I think you need to look at what it is about the Isabell that makes you feel secure. If it's the Equisuede and the relatively high and tight pommel and cantle then no flatter leather seat is going to have the same effect. I suspect that in that case you need to get yourself some lunge lessons to work on your balance and position.

I have a bates momentum eventing saddle, other than the wintec Australian stock saddle it's the most secure saddle I've ever ridden in and I love it. I have hunted, jumped, hacked and evented in it, my old mare was sharp and I've also ridden my youngster in it. Bates do do a vsd, these look lovely too, I was considering getting one of these as Ben needs a straighter cut saddle and as a result I'm selling his momentum, but I haven't ridden in a vsd yet so can't comment. I have ridden in their GP years ago and that was when I fell in love with bates saddles! :)

the bates gp/vsd saddles are completely different to the isabel
i know because i made the very costly mistake of buying one only for my saddler to inform me that it will never in a million years fit my horse
you can not adjust them as much as you might think and unless your horse is med/wide , med or med/narrow it is unlikely to fit properly

even though i'd had the saddle a week , sat on it once (when the saddler checked it) had the receipt and all tags etc were still in place the shop would not give me my money back :(

Its more that the saddle feels more secure on my horse and fits him so much better.
Its pretty flat on the knee rolls.
My T4 is so wobbly..
Ive got a bad lower back at the moment-whiplash from a car accident-So cant do lunge lessons right now..It's the saddle wobbling that's making me feel insecure.

He said the Isabell was the saddle I should concentrate on for my horse as it was such a good fit.. I would like a GP though for when I start doing more with my horse..

It started torrentially raining as we were finishing the appt so it got cut short as we ran for cover.. I have called him today, awaiting call back for his advice on the GP..

I'd be inclined to go with what he suggests, he knows the horse and can, presumably, source something for you to try so you don't end up like angelish

I have the bates AP saddle for my 3 yrs old! I've not sat in it yet, on the horse I have in the shop! but it looks so deep a was comfy in the shop!! compared to my wintec 2000 its very very deep

Kerrieberry2...Your mare is gorgeous! The saddle looks great..Which model is that one please?

I was thinking to look at the Wintec 2000 .....Its just as the Wintec Isabell seems to fit him so well, i assumed the other Wintec/Bates models would fit similarly due to being built on the same trees..

Thanks to you all for the helpful responses so far you all rock!!

Are bates and wintecs set up the same ? If so I hated the wintec 2000gp it put my leg in a forward position that I felt I ws always fighting trying to get it back and stable, where as now its just getting it stable sometimes.
