saddle help please?

Ok so should my saddle being doing this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jn9-w-tM2l0 when I jump? It doesn't always do it when I jump just sometimes.
Could it be the fact he had his posh breastplate on (sabre) which can be a bit snug when he jumps, it doesn't have elastic in it? (someone at yard suggested this). Saddle was only checked last month and just needed a slight adjustment.
Open to ideas and suggestions please?
 
it certainly doesn't look right and I would think it would make his back sore. I'd say get the saddler out again and get it rechecked. Has the horse lost some muscle tone on his back perhaps?
 
do you mean the way it's bouncing off and on his back on take-off? no, it definitely shouldn't do that, and the horse is very good to ignore it. i dread to think what it might be doing on landing.
i'd try it without the breastplate, cos that might be pulling it forward and down, and video it again.
i'd maybe get another saddler to check it as well, tbh. not all "master saddlers" really are, unfortunately.
 
looks to me as though you have an elastic girth - I don't think this is anything to do with a breast plate. Try it with a non elastic girth. Often the elastic is just too soft and will stretch as the horse lifts the rider up over the jump. Also I suspect it is actually now too wide in front - and is tipping forwards. It is difficult to see from the video but it will definitely cause the horse back problems if it continues like this
 
Try a Stubben String Girth.....

seems to be a girthing problem...happened to me..changed o the above girth..problem went away!!!
 
girth has elastic either end, but is only a year old! Saddler only came out 3 weeks ago and adjusted saddle, but have looked at older photos and it does the same then

sorry to be totally dense but why would the elastic stretching cause the back of the saddle to lift?
 
would a string girth not pinch him? sorry have long distance memories of nice

Try a girth without elastic as your first port of call, but I agree, I think the saddle just does not fit well enough

plenty of give..but not "stretchy" like elastic...or indeed leather...

as for "how" they work...no idea just know they do!
 
The stubben cord girths do not pinch. I use them on my Wb and my thin skinned TB to event and have never had a girth sore. Elastic just lets the saddle lift of and bang back down. if it is on one side it will lift on one side and twist as it lifts - if it is on both sides it will allow the saddle to lift of.

This is a really common fault in saddle fitting - you need to check the girth as so many of the issues come down to girths, numnahs and pads, as well as appalling fitting and flocking. But it will only cost you about £25 for a stubben girth - and make sure it is a Stubben cord girth - not one of the hideous string ones that used to be used in all the riding schools
 
they work by flexing with the horse and allowing the skin to breath. THey also spread the pressure a good 3 inches wider than a leather one so spread the weight so much further

his attitude is still the same......and he's still happy with his SC saddle and Stubben girth...me too....

Don't cry - you got out a saddler and put your trust in him - I am going through very similar probs and it sucks, but hey, thats life!

Regarding the white hairs either side of the withers - when did they start to form? I would say they have deffo been caused by a saddle, but whether it is this one or another depends on when they appeared.

Yes I think it would - patches of white hair are a classic sign of an ill fitting saddle having been used at some stage I'm afraid

Personally I would call your saddler and get him to come, take lappy to the yard and show him the video. If he cannot sort it then get someone else out. Oh and refuse to pay a call out fee!

Can you take some side/front shots of him wearing it (no rider on board) and let us have a look (try and get Pidge to stand square on a level surface).

i personally would go for a second opinion.....he's hardly going to admit he's supplied an ill-fitting saddle, IF he has of course..
which a second opinion may shed some light on...
 
To my eye your saddle isnt the correct fit. When your saddler came out last time did he see you jump or was it just assessed ridden on the flat?

I wouldnt be happy especially with the white marks you are now finding. Oh and I have to agree about the Stubben girths....fabulous things.


Get a second saddler out to assess and then go from there.

how do I find another saddler then to come and have a look as having looked at old photos this isn't a new problem with saddle and paid a lot for it just over a year ago

I realise the saddle looks not to be lifting in those pics, but his hind legs are still on the ground and it is when he is using his backend that the probs are happening
