Saddle pads which don't rub clipped horses?!

Hi all, with winter looming.. i am looking for some suggestions for saddle pads which people find don't rub. My horse wears a thin saddle pad and a sheepskin half pad, his saddle is fitted to this and fits very well. The saddle pad never rubs him at all, until he is clipped and then he ends up with some bald patches! I have tried Le Mieux saddle pads and Griffin Nuumed, which are both fine all year round, until he is clipped. I always leave a bigger saddle patch when clipping. He has sensitive skin and he goes in sheepskin rein covers during the winter too as the reins can rub the hair away on his neck slightly.

I am just looking for recommendations for nice soft saddle pads which people find don't rub... it would need to be a close contact one as he has a jump saddle. It seems to just be the binding/edges of the saddle pad which rubs him -everywhere else is fine.

Can you not switch to a full sheepskin pad for winter? That’s what I do

(I’ve always also found that clipping it completely helps)

I have thought about this but don't want to change his current set up as he is so happy in it. And i feel a sheepskin pad wouldn't quite fit the same as the current half pad set up. He is sensitive to change and it took a while to find this combination which he's really happy in... so if possible would just like to find an alternative saddle pad to the le mieux and nuumed ones.. thinking there must be ones out there which are less likely to rub surely

Le Mieux do saddlecloths that are lined around the edges if that is any good for you? So there is lining on the wither area and then they have a lining around the edge of the entire saddle cloth? x

I have the Nuuled full wool one, that is not overly padded and has no collars. That could still be paired with a half pad, if that's what you like.

That's alright They're rather pricey, but my friend has a dressage one and it's lasted near enough 5 years x

Thank you, it will be worth it! I do like the le mieux pads, ive had mine about five years and they look brand new and i find they fit really well. I'll definitely order one, thank you, you have probably just solved my problem! I cant believe i havent seen that on their website before. x

Mattes now make a coat change pad range with a sheepskin trim all round but it won't be cheap.
