10 days ago I had a reputable saddler out to have a look at my saddle as I wasn't happy with it. It just seem to perch on top of my horse. The saddle is approximately 18 months old and had extra flocking added in December after the initial settling period.

When the saddler looked at the saddle she agreed that the width etc was ok but that too much flocking had been added previously and stripped almost half of it out! However 10 day's later the saddle is sitting too low and pressing on my mare's withers so obviously too much was taken out.

I paid a £40.00 call out fee and £10.00 to have the saddle adjusted, do you think I should get my next visit for free? I personally don't feel that I should have to incur further costs after such a short space of time. Advice greatly appreciated.

Although it doesn't seem fair what material is the saddle flocked with? IS it tradtional flocking? if it is this can settle quite alot so it may not be all down to the saddler. i would speak to the saddler and see what he says,

Good luck!

Yes I definately think you should get a visit for free. If I pay £50 to have a saddle adjusted I do not expect it to need readjusting only 10 days later!! The saddler should have accounted for settling etc. when he took the flocking out, or informed you that the saddle simple doesn't fit. I've had these sorts of problems before with saddlers too - why is it so difficult to find a good saddler??!!

Phone the saddler and ask them to come and look again. I dont think you should have to pay for another visit after just 10 days but you need to contact the person who did it so they have a chance to rectify the situation

Is it a Saddle co one by any chance? If it's 18mths old it'll be needing a full reflock so send it back to them with a template. Mine is needing the same - I'm using a prolite short term until all the competitions are over and it's fine for now. I also had flocking added at the front after the first few months. They do settle quite a bit due to the serge panels.
Any other make I'd imagine will be similar to be honest. I know wool flocked saddles whould be re-done every year or two.

Any decent saddler would be more than happy to come back in a few weeks to re asess and make any further adjustments to a saddle as the flocking can often compact a little. This is normally free, but obviously will vary from saddler to saddler.
