I bought a Wintec 500 as I was told this was probably a good saddle for a novice. I have been riding for about 2 years now but have never felt completely comfortable and safe! I recently tried a friends old leather saddle and instantly became balanced and felt much more secure in both trot and canter! Has anyone else found this and could anybody reccomend a saddle?

One that fits your horse!! Every saddle is different and so is every horse. Part the reason you might have felt better is because the leather saddle fitted your horse better than your own. In 2 years your horse is likely to have changed shape - has your saddle been refitted or checked at all?

I had the saddle fitted by a saddle fitter. I thought it was my riding at first until I tried my friends and rode a lot better. The leather one seems to hold me in place whereas I seem to slide about on the Wintec.

^ This!

I hate to tell you this but not all saddle fitters are good at their job & some will just sell you whatever they have in stock. Don't despair though, there's also some very good ones out there. If you can afford to why not get some recommendations for good saddlers in your area then get one out to look at your saddle? A good fitter should want to see you ride because the saddle has to fit you both & be fine when the horse is moving as well as stood still.

I had a leather saddle and never felt happy in it. Riding in a wintec is so comfortable for me, plus the deep seat has saved me a few times when the horses spook :p

Wintecs are very good at tipping the rider and they tend to not fit more horses than they fit. You have now experienced a better saddle, so I would look into getting yourself a new saddle of some other make.
