So a girl down my yard is working away for a year and she has asked if i will exercise her pony a few days a week while shes gone. Shes a really sweet pony but every time someone tries to put a saddle on or do her rug up she becomes really aggressive. She has been checked my a vet, she is perfectly healthy and has no problems with her back, her saddle has also been checked and there are no problems with that either. Because I'm going to be riding her regularly i want to be able to put on her saddle without getting my face bitten off... does any one know any ways to stop horses doing this or know any other things that may be causing her to do this?
Thanks.

Has the horse been checked for ulcers?

Has the horse had a Physio recently? Your post does say shes had her back checked but a full Physio work up may find something else thats bothering her, especially when being tacked up. Only ask as our old horse was given back to me recently and the Physio found that she had kissing spines. Don't want to worry you but she objected to her saddle and was grumpy. She is however a lot better now and back in ridden work. May be worth checking.
