Hi guys i have a 16 HH Dutch warmblood x. I have recently noticed since buying his new saddle that he isnt jumping as well. Before i bought this brand new saddle i had a second hand one off ebay. It was a Narrow fit and fit on his wither but it kept moving back and left him with white hairs on his whiter and back. So i got the saddle fitter out to fit a new saddle for him, he told me that because his shoulders are so big its gonna be hard to fit anything to his withers because his shoulders are always going to push it back and its going to restrict his movement. So he recommended that we bought a medium wide saddle and padded out the the withers with a prolite pad to take it off his withers. The pad did seem to work at taking it off his withers but every time i rode in the saddle, the prolite pad would slip back and come out from underneath the saddle. So i now use a small anti slip pad, gel riser, numnah and a fluffy riser then the saddle. I thought that this combination was working for me, however it still slips back but not as seriously, but it is still leaving white hairs on his withers and i am concerned that it is restricting his movement and nipping his withers.

I use a breastplate on him to try and prevent movement however it still doesnt work.

Any help would be amazing thanks :)

I have had a similar problem with the prolite pads - I now use the prolite pad with a thin anti-slip pad between the prolite pad and saddle and haven't had a problem with it slipping since. Maybe go back to the prolite pad as this is what the saddler fitted the saddle with but add in the anti-slip pad, which as long as it is really thin shouldn't alter the fit drastically - if that make sense!

It would be best to let the fitter know what problems you'r having, or get a second opinion. Really hard to know what's going on without seeing it - it sounds like a lot of pads, and I never like non-slip sticky things. To stop the slipping back have you a balance strap you can use ie a girth strap attached back towards the cantle?

Also bear in mind white hairs can often develop even after the pressure/movement has stopped, it can take months. They may go with the next coat change.
