Hi ive just got a new horse! 16.2hh anglo arab and hes an ex-eventer so has always been ridden in an albion jump/event or albion dressage saddle, the owner said hes an albion medium. im looking at a legend gp medium but it has a tb tree (hes 3/4 tb) -would this be suitable? ( im a happy hacker) or should i get a normal medium - im a bit confused! i have a saddle fitter on standby to fit but they only have new to buy and i cant stretch to that so need help on what to choose! many thanks in advance.x

I don't know if it is suitable for your horse, but I got my horse last september and her saddle was way too big and she got very sore from it. All I can say is get the saddle properly fitted as you don't want to be forking out extra money on physio and another saddle... The saddle was expensive but worth it as she wasnt in pain any more :)

Well my anglo has a wide, Jeffries close contact jumping saddle and I just hack her (or at least I will once she's back in work). I wanted a GP, but couldn't find one that fitted her and ended up having to buy what did fit. I do love it now and I wouldn't swap it for a GP now (if one that fitted her came along ;) ).

whatever saddle i choose it will be fitted properly so no worries there,it was just the tb tree i was wondering about cos hes 3/4 tb and i know they have better pressure distribution on the panels. but cos hes 1/4 arab it might be better with a "normal tree" -oh dilemma!

Anglo arabs can vary from wide and round like arabs, to high withered like some thoroughbreds and warmbloods. If he has a high wither then the TB tree may work, but without knowing his shape (width and flatness of back under the seat would also matter, a TB tree wil likely be roof shape whereas an arab back is flatter at the back) it's impossible to say.

thanks sbloom thats exactly the advice i need, because hes always been ridden in albion saddles im going to stick to that but was concerned that the trees and panels would be different on the event saddles he used to be ridden in and a gp even if it was an albion might be completely different.
