Was just wondering if anyone could give me a bit of advice on saddles please. When I bought Leary she came with a really nice, well fitting dressage saddle. The thing is that my daughter and I only hack out at the moment. We are hoping to have lessons in the near future but dressage is something we may never do. Is it ok to use a dressage saddle as a general purpose or not??:

I often hack and do interval work on the XC course in my dressage saddle. You won't be able to jump in it though as the seat will be too deep and the knee rolls/stirrups too far back.

I think hacking and flat lessons will be ok in a dressage saddle, so if that is all you are doing at the moment it will bide you some time in order to get a GP one.

I've been hacking in my dressage saddle on my slightly spooky horse - I feel very secure in it with a good deep seat and long leg. I'd say if you feel comfortable and safe in it go ahead.

There is nothing wrong in hacking and schooling in a dressage saddle, Champion VSD saddles are built on a dressage tree and they are suitable for doing almost anything. what type of horse do you have, as some horses go very well in a dressage saddle.

Thank you everyone for your comments, they are really helpful. mrhsaddler, she is a cob x and quite round at the moment!

As your horse is a cob type I would recommend a saddle that is not too forward, as some gp saddles could interfear with the movement of the shoulder blade, this is probably why the horse came with the dressage saddle, to give her room to move.
I would recommend a VSD, a purpose built cob saddle or even a working hunter style, if you want to change from the dressage.
