Free standing rack, however if I do use a wall rack then the pommel faces the wall.

Cantle forwards, or just slung on a spare stable wall hoping against hope that someone will steal them. The cats use them as beds.

On a wall rack, pommel to the wall. One of mine rests on the seat of my Gilera scooter and the other is currently balanced on a push bike's seat, leaning against the wall

Depends on the rack - usualy I would put with the pommel towards the wall, but leave the saddle far back enough so that the flaps do not get squashed. However, I've got a rack in the lorry that is designed so that the pommel faces forwards, so in the lorry they face forwards
