I need a new saddle for ben but dont know what saddle I want, I want a gp one but which make? Also does anyone have any idea what size ben will be? He has huge withers. Will it be hard to fit one do you think? I am going to get one fitted but im nosey and would like to have a rough idea what size he would be.

Thanks for any help

Without seeing him it would be difficult to say what size he would be. Some horses can be very deceiving!! Remember the saddle length is more to do with you size than the horse and the width is for the horse.
How old is he and what are your plans with him. What is your budget for a saddle?

oh sorry will get a pic for you, It will be 17.5 the seat Ive got big bum lol. He is 9 I am planning on doing a bit of everything with him,

I hope these help? Not really a budget I just want a decent saddle.

Try to borrow a few saddles of different widths from a few friends, and see what looks like the right width from your perspective. Then get the saddle fitter out to make sure it fits vert well when you've bought/are buying a saddle. What's his current saddle width? I'd HIGHLY recommend the Frank Baines Eclipse GP, lovely saddle and very comfy!

I completely agree. Just remeber what size fits himin one make may not in another. Make sure your saddler has a good selection of saddles for you to try.

I dont know his current saddle width not measured it, its a medium from the looks of it. I am going to try my friends saddle on him today see how it looks. but I think I am going to have the problem that as hes so high withered he would have to haev the back stuffed a bit to compensate as its like riding up a hill on him lol.

He looks a nice sort. I have a Black Country GP for my old horse - it's very comfortable and I would recommend it.

I can recommend a Jeffries Falcon Hawk Event - very versatile, nice quality and they do it in a high wither too. I'm having a Jeffries Stamford WH as I wanted something slightly off his shoulders. Perhaps a few trips round the tack shops to get an idea of what you like the look of and how much you want to spend? I would try and get some idea of his size by trying friend's saddles etc and then get a saddle fitter to bring out as many as possible. Do you have a menage? It would be good if you could have a ride in the ones that fit him best. Or if not try and hire a school and meet saddler there. My saddler let me borrow the two that fit him best and my instructor watched me ride in them. Good luck on your search

We do have a menage so will try them out in their, the saddle fitter we use lets us rid out on the saddles to check they fit and test them on the big hills we have on the bridle paths. I have seen some I like but I worry as hes got big withers but his back is downhill kind of. Well it isnt but as he has huge withers it makes it look feel like it is,

The pics dont really do any justice of him or the actual size of his withers. I will get the saddler out and see how we do.

Will have to have a look into them, Had a look on the website and they look very nice, how much are they to buy new it doesnt say on the website, He is 17.2 aswell lol hes not as chunky as people think, He looks chunk if you see him in real life but when you get on him hes really not have had people comment on this.

I like Kieffer saddles :-) however admittedly none of my horses have been his build.

Given his size I should imagine you need a wide fit.
