Saddle repairs in the North West (girth strap!)

I noticed one of my girth straps on my Albion dressage saddle has cracked and looks as though it might break off (saddle only two years old so I think I might have caught it on something).

Does anyone know of someone who would be able to replace the girth strap???

Nigel at Oakfield will definitely arrange the repair for you but he sends all his stuff off to Walsall so might take a week or so. I love Oakfield though... I seem to be there practically everday!

Oh god Im beginning to sound really sad now but isnt there a Fylde Saddlery in Preston. Isnt he a Master saddler?

Yep... Fylde Saddlery is near Preston - over towards Blackpool way. run by a bloke called Peter Wilkinson. He's been around for years and does a good job but is another one that can take ages to get anything repaired (he might be better now but it always used to take an age to get anything back)

I do know one but it may be too far out for you. She stitched some stirrup leathers for me a few years ago and is also a Master Saddler. I didnt have to wait long either. Its Michelle Miller in Bacup, Lancs.

There's also a place in Darwen... I think they do their own repairs on site so might be quicker. They're called J Houghton & Sons and their number is (01254) 702282. I haven't used them myself but Amanda has... might be worth a ring to see how quick they could do it?

Michael Marron at Southview does tack repairs. We had a breastplate repaired last weekend whilst we were at a show. He's really good and not expensive and does it immediately.

My local saddler is really good very cheap and if you ring him before going he will try to do it while you wait or go for a coffee in the village!
His name is Paul Hutchinson on 01695570761. 9.30-5.30 and sat mornings. I can give you directions if you are coming over.

I have Peter Smithson from Longridge, he is on 0781 1593742. He will let you know if he is out and about near your yard and he can repair it in his van while you wait! I've been round to his house before now to collect/drop stuff off to be fixed. He is also a saddle fitter.

I'm sure if you explain the urgency, arrange a convenient time to deliver and collect, he'll do his best to accomodate you

Croft in Standish also do repairs. But again they send it off so you may have to wait a while. And there is a saddlers next to Stan Stocks on the A49 (i think it is) Charnock Richard. They do them on site and did a girth strap for me once. Did take about a week though. I don't have the name of that one sorry or a telephone number.
