Hi all I am sure this has been done to death but appreciate any help. I have recently moved to lovely new yard very happy there and so is horse nice and settled and exactly what she needs after a long rehab so moving not really an option. Basically though we have storage it's not secure. I have a big tack locker it's taller than me and is metal I've always kept tack in there and not worried but I've had to store it in a pretty exposed place and don't feel comfortable leaving my saddle in there so I've been taking it home which tbh is a pain.

I've just ordered a saddle mate to make life easier but I have a sharer who after some time away will be coming up a couple of times a week normally afternoons to long rein (rehab) I am leaving most stuff there literally just not my saddle, massage pad and ice vibes as all more expensive to replace. My mare needs to be long reined most days so will need to be done on her days. I can drop saddle in morning as yard is busy enough to leave it there but trouble is me getting it back feels a bit pointless having to go get it and I live in opposite direction she goes home so that won't work. Is there some way of securing saddle like a lock on saddle rack or would you put a chain round locker? Any ideas welcome!

Tia

I have no idea about securing the saddle but does she need it while she is just long reining, I would get a roller and use that, when you start riding you will need the saddle but it should give you time to sort something out that is more secure.

You can get locking saddle racks but not sure how secure they actually are. I used to hide my saddle under a pile of rugs to stop a casual thief from breaking into a locker looking for tack. A friend has a second set of tack for sharer but obviously costly. I now have a very heavy duty locker bolted to the floor.

If you can secure it suitably a bulldog saddle secure is the best rack. Like this https://www.bulldogsecure.com/browse/equestrian/saddle-security/77

If you can secure it in line with thier terms they will replace any saddle taken from it. We've used them for years and they are massively secure. Replacement keys for sharers are expensive but we have always felt worth the cost. They do also hold their value second hand.

There is literally no way to get a saddle out out of this without a serious angle grinder - which would of course also write off the saddle.

Oh cool thanks, do you think if I use this inside tack locker would be ok? Someone said they might just lift the whole locker?

They'd take the whole locker dependent on size and whether they could cut it out.

That does look like a good lock though.

Your question re lunge reins - yes thay should fit fine through the side rings on a roller.
