The receptionist woman got really arsy on the phone when I rang again on Thursday, saying I was just going to have to wait until Friday for him to ring (

) so I am driving to the shop, and just going to return it in person, and demand my money back.

At least, I would if I wasn't such a big coward. Eek!

OH is coming with. I'm in Durham, and the saddle doesn't fit - slips to the right and is too wide/big for the horse.

It was a new one, one that the saddler made himself or works with the factory or something, he had a load of them in his van, so he was just probably trying to flog as many as possible.

Thats what my one does, except it slips to the left! Its also too big for me - my knees don't even reach the knee rolls and I get no support from the thigh rolls, despite it being made to measure. Sadly the manufacturer is totally ignoring me and I am having to sue them. Charming, eh?

Oh dear! Well hopefuly this wont come to this, this guy must rely on local reputation.

If he refuses to take it back I'll just burn his shop.

Under the Sale Of Goods Act the saddle has to be fit for purpose. If it isn't then legally you are entitled to your money back. We had to threaten a "master saddler" with that once and did get a refund. He tried to tell me my horse had changed shape in 3 days...

Stick to your guns, why should they get away with it.

When you go and demand your money back, just keep sticking to what you want without wavering, dont let them "just serve someone else" in between seeing to you, "they" are holding up other customers by not dealing with your complaint "not you", everyone only has so many "no's", so will eventually give you your money back if you kick up a fuss long enough, bit like getting a horse to load, once it actually realises you aint giving up, it will "eventually" give up and go in, I always try the nice pleasant but firm approach first, before turning nasty and causing a scene good luck

Thanks guys.

Anyway, I don't know if what I did was alright, but the saddler wasn't in, and woman said to wait for him to cal me, and he would come up to "have a look". Knowing that he would likely charge me £50 call out and try flog another dud saddle I just left the saddle with her, and got a signed/dated receipt saying that I had left the saddle and am expecting a cheque. I also watched her write down in the diary for him to ring me Monday.

I'll be calling again by Wednesday if I haven't heard anything.

Was this ok? It's a very well known master saddler with a big shop in the town centre high street, not the type you expect to be after bad reputations.

Well if thats how youv'e done it, then phone everyday, make a complete nuisance of yourself until you get what you deserve as a paying customer, it's called customer satisfaction.

If they are a member of the Society of Master Saddlers you can ring them and get some advice. The Society of Master Saddlers has a complaints procedure. If they are not members then you only have re-course through the courts.
Oh and put your complaint in writing to the shop.

Well when I eventually speak to him I'll say that I would have been happy to exchange it but I didn't know when he was going to get back to me and in the meantime I needed to ride so bought another saddle.

He is a member of master saddlers, so I guess I can go down that route. Thanks!
