I currently have a synthetic dressage saddle with a self adjusting system. I'm not convinced it's 100% for Bob.

I'm looking at getting a leather dressage saddle. I don't want to spend a HELL of a lot of money, but at the same time I don't want to spend £50.

Size: 17.5" medium/med wide

Bob used to have an Albion which was a 17.5" medium which fitted perfectly. Someone said to me that Albions come up big? I tried a friends Martin Wilkinson saddle on him which was a med wide and it seemed to fit rather well. Are there any other makes that come up funny sizes??

Advice please :)

I think like ladies clothing each brand will come up a little different. The seat size is only part of the equation though - different shapes trees and panels make them suitable for different shaped horses. Best bet is to get your saddler out (or one you have had recommended that you know stocks a good range of saddles in the sort of price you are looking at spending) and try a load on him. Just because it fits him doesn't mean it will be comfortable for you and vice versa. The more you can try out the better!

Martin Wilkinson tends to use Ideal saddles and rebadge for his M2M service. So on that basis Ideal would also be one to consider. I think Albions can be more generous than most, I think my M2M wide Albion would more likely be X wide in most other makes.
