Hello

The last couple of times i've been out hacking, mysaddle has been slipping backwards not alot thou maybe 3 inches or so....

The saddle was refitted/flocked etc last summer, its a farrington working hunter saddle.

My boy has lost cond and muscle over the winter and the saddle so i put down the slipping to that.

I hope you can view the pics/video of him the vid is last summer and the pic was two weeks ago

Can you reasure me thats why its slipping and theres not something wrong with my saddle?? :)

Also will a prolite pad prevent it from slipping - have just ordered a breastplate :)

Thank you xx

How about using a breastplate but it might be best to have saddle checked as its over six months and as you say he has lost condition so really need to get saddle checked before he ends up with a sore back

Only the first link actually has a photo, and it's just the horse. If you can post a pic of the saddle firmly girthed on the horse, no pad, from the side showing the whole of the horse, and from the front right by his head, showing pommel to bottom of the flap, that would help.

There are many reasons a saddle would move backwards including it being pommel low (your suspicion? a lot of horses have got narrower this winter). If it has dropped in front then in theory anything that brings it back into balance (a thick pad does lift the front a little more than the back on most horses but you may need an actual riser) will help it and may correct the movement. Making sure that you HAVE corrected any issues like that, using the back girth strap (do you have a balance strap, attached near the cantle?) and, say, the second, may help stop it moving backwards as well.
