I have a cob who does have withers and is not a barrel however my saddle has started slipping back when ridden. This happend a year ago and i got a saddle made and all was well until feb, when he would arch his back when i did sitting trot and show discomfort when cantering. I put a thicker nummnah on as thought with winter losing weight that would cure it until now but seems to be getting worse not better, in fact have to stop in lessons to put it back in place. Any advice would be appreciated.

Get your saddle checked as sounds like he has changed shape again.............My cob likes to change shape ever 6 months too!!!

It depends on what saddle you have go and see a saddler to check it out if you have a saddle which has 3 lethers put one on the first strapp and the other on the back one!! hope i have givin you some help?

I have Highlands, and sometimes use Limpet numnahs, which are great and don't slip at all. Obviously I agree with getting the saddle fitted first, but Limpets are very good.

I also have a Limpet in my box of goodies, fortunately my saddles fit well enough that I don't need to use it at the moment.

Don't be too quick to blame the saddle or muscle wastage on the horse though - this could be to do with an uneven rider

Muscle wastage is due to the saddle. If the horse is one sided, it is usually the rider.

I agree though - you need to get the saddle checked by a good saddler before you start adding more pads/numnahs etc.
