i have just started bringing a welsh mare back into work for my yard owner. she is over weight which makes her saddle slip horendously, i was wonder if i'll just have to cope with it untill she looses some of her weight or is there anything that will actual help this?
i've herd about huane girths and over girths? has anybody had a good experience with these?
hope someone can help as keep finding myself underneath her stomach!:L

Buy a roll of soft plastic mesh type sticky stuff from a diy store, it's proper use is to stop objects sliding off desks/tables/in the lorry etc. Cut a saddlecloth size piece and place it carefully under the numnah, works really well, no more slipping ;)

Ive recently had the same trouble with my lad, my saddler suggested a girth without elastic ends and also one of those gel eeze pads...seems to have done the trick

Hopet his helps

Yep my saddler just recommended a girth without elastic at the end, a griffin nuumed anti slip numnah and having a balance strap attached to my saddle.

Obvs. you need to make sure your saddle is right for the horse, but when it still moves after you've confirmed that, then the best combination of tack I have found is.

Nummed Anti Slip numnah, http://www.rideaway.co.uk/NUUMED-HIWITHER-ANTI-SLIP-NUMNAH/default.aspx
with a Le-Tixerant Girth http://www.suecarsonsaddles.co.uk/node/291
The girth (which comes as dressage, or standard length) is very expensive, and you will probably find the excellent nuumed anti slip numnah solves the problem, but if not the 'belt and braces' is this amazing girth.

However as she's not your horse, it might be best to try some of the cheaper ideas first!

I have a traditional cob who is very much a roundy lol! I use a gel non slip saddle pad and use straps 1 and 3 on his saddle and this seems to work really well. Didn't know about the non elasticated girth, might invest in one of those as some added safety :)
