Hello
well to cut a long story short since I backed my new forest pony I have had problems with her saddle shifting to the right. Her muscles are uneven and although I have been doing exercises to address this, she is stil very assymetrical 2 years on. I did have extra flocking in the right gusset of my saddle and this solved the problem, however I needed to have the saddle flocked out to make it narrower due to her toneing up and changing shape (this is her 6 year old year) and to get all the flocking in the right place the extra stuffing was taken out at the back. On trying the saddle with saddle fitter yesterday I am back to the saddle slipping to the right again, she falls out through her right shoulder and pushes everything to the right. She does this on the lunge and with a different rider so its not just me! Also this only happens on the right rein, if only riding on the left rein the saddle does not move!

Saddler has suggested I get a Mattes correctional pad with shims. I have tried to order one online but it is going to take 4 weeks! So I am now looking into alternatives that I could get straight away, I have seen the Wow Korrectional Pad. Has anyone had experience of one of these on assymetrical horses? Also the suberpad seems to have good testimonials also. The problem with both of these tho is that I couldnt use them under my showing saddle in the ring...

Can anyone suggestion anything that may help? I have the back man out again today, she is checked every 6 months and he is very helpful so I will ask him for suggestions too :)

ETA my saddler is also my riding instructor, so very knowledgeable on both subjects :)
Thank you!

Nuumed and Prolite (and Aerborn I think) also make adjustable saddle pads that you could alter to fit, and you should be able to find those with little trouble. :)

The Mattes pad is by far the best - more stable and more adjustable. I use only those for remedial fits.

I would say though that fighting with a saddle for this long rings big alarm bells for me as a fitter - NF ponies are very flat and I often see them with saddles that are slightly perched or too curvy or both, and this will exacerbate any assymetry. With the right tre, panel and girthing options it should, in most cases to be possible to saddle a pony without needing to shim asymmetrically.

Thank you for the replies. I have ordered a le mieux prosorb as was going to take 4 week for a Mattes....andrea from notice pony saddles suggested a different girthing method which seems to have helped, saddle only moved about an inch to the right. So hopefully with the shims in the half pad I can stay in the middle. fingers crossed
sbloom its a native pony company pony club saddle bought new from a native pony fitter so I know the saddle isn't the problem and it is just sinking into the shape of my pony who unfortunately is asymmetrical :-)
