Have just splashed out on a new saddle that I cannot afford to keep uninsured on the ayrd so need to transport it home and keep in the house.

So, what are peoples cheap innovative solutions for the car? I have thought about a saddle mate but think I would prefer something less bulky. I saw something a while ago that I can't find now, it was a sort of carry strap cross/hanging up thing so you could hang it on a stable door and it would stick out like a rack.

Any other ideas for home or car??

I've got a fold down saddle rack somewhere - its just a pole that you screw in, then when you want it just fold it out. Might be good for home?

I personally would use a saddle mate or just one of the stand up metal frames saddle racks

Fleece saddle cover and put it and bridle into one of those big laundry bags. It doesn't get damaged by anything else in the car and all stays together. If its not being used for a while there are racks in the utility room.

I am going to get a bag like this, keeps it free of dust and dreaded mud or teeth marks :-O usually just gets plonked on the futon we have in the spare room but if I had space (or landlord would allow wall fixings) for one of those metal frame saddle racks and a bridle rack too I would :-)

I never trust keeping them at a yard, they cost so much money and it's not that much more effort to take it home :-)

I have a saddle rack under my stairs above head height which keeps the saddle out of the way - mind you its only a cub saddle so is little and light

Like the idea of the laundry bag, do have a saddle cover (with Arnie's name on it ;) )

What is really bugging me is that I saw and advert/article on thins sort of strap contraption where the strap went through the gullet and you could hook it on fences etc and it would almost 'sit up' against whatever you hung it against so could hang it off the head rest in my car and the back of some wooden stairs at home but can I find it?! No, I keep coming across one that has a wooden T-bar across the pommel but not the one I saw, beginning to think I dreamt it!

Saddle lives on a portable metal stand at home and it has a saddle bag carry thing for when i used to put it in the car, be warned there is a knack for getting them in it.

The saddle bag is called "The Hitch" I have been trying to find one. They were being sold on ebay at one point but I can't find one anymore! Will let you know if I ever find one !

OMG I love you, that's it!!!!!!!!!! I don't even care if I can't buy one as that has put me at peace now! I will let you know if I find one too :D

A really cheap idea that I found on an old book or something is a piece of bailer twine tied around a stick or bamboo or something so it looks like a t shape. The string lies in the gullet, and the stick at right angles to the pommel, then you hang the end of the string on a hook or something. I did try it at the time and it does work!
