Hi all,

I used to keep my old saddle on a wall mounted rack but this isn't an option anymore. I like the concept of the stubbs saddle mates but cringe at the price - anyone have any other ideas that are ideally space saving, reasonably priced and decent quality? Open to DIY options! Thank you 😁

I kept mine in at home in a saddle bag that zips up with a carry strap, it can go into a wardrobe or cupboard quite easily, or it could even go into a garage as the bag does give it a bit of protection.

Or what about the free standing metal stands? I store mine on them in the utility room.

These need padding the very most of all saddle stands, they can wreck panels if not. A decent pillow duck taped on is about the minimum.

For wall mounted a pole rack is about best, just be careful to lift saddle on and off carefully, for floor standing just have an eye to the pressure on the panels, even the Stubbs saddle mate can be at the wrong angle on the top and gradually change the contour of panels.

What's the best way to store saddles please?

Like I say the wall mounted pole is probably best, I've seen panels re-shaped by even the nicest old fashioned wooden racks! I recommend anything that sits under the panels is padded out, and something like a pillow, that doesn't allow the saddle to bottom out through it, or a folded travel blanket, is best.

Numnahs tend to be a bit firm and the saddles are still affected by the pressure from below, but if you've not got panel damage by now Pinkvboots then I'm sure you're fine. As with all things, FEEL under the saddle, feel the panels, see what effect gravity will have on your panels sitting on your saddle rack.

One of mine did have dents but it didn't have anything underneath and I foolishly used to plonk another on top of it because I wasn't using it, when I sold it I took pictures and explained what happened and it need to be flocked anyway so the buyer was happy.

Hence to say I won't do it again!

I found a really thick memory foam pillow for a few £ at a charity shop and have that over my metal free standing rack - that definitely helps I think

I then put and old sheepskin numnah upside down so the used numnah goes onto that and has air circulating to help it dry if a bit sweaty / rained on !
