I have had my new horse (Missy) for about two months now and have been riding in a wintec vsd. I recently changed the gullet from medium to wide after using the wintec measure gauge as my saddle kept moving forward and first point of call was checking the gullet size. It doesn't fit well on the top of the bearing zone, however is seems to fit ok on the rest of her back. However i am just having major issues with the comfort of the saddle after having a bates gp saddle with my previous mare. Anyway getting to the point, i want to get a new saddle for Missy as i am also worried about her back so want to get a new saddle and have it properly fitted and am considering the bates but would really appreciate any suggestions on other saddle makes? I like to do a bit of everything but maily want to get back into jumping so am looking at GP and have been advised to consider an event? I also want a saddle that can provide me with a nice secure and deep seat as i feel like my wintec is just going to unseat me if my horse decides to spook, which is not helping me as i now am reluctant to ride. I am looking at second hand with a ideal budget of £400 but may be able to stretch to £500. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated as i desperately want to be riding!

It really depends on the shape of your horse's back. If typical cob then a wintec wont fit.

If looking for a synthetic I would look at the thorowgoods.

If looking for leather, I would look at Ideal (H&C) or possibly a barnsby. I fit Saddle Company saddles which also fit natives quite well and they are adjustable so are good for horses that change shape regularly or youngsters.

If looking to do a bit of everything I prefer an event to a GP which I think on the whole are useless at everything. The 2 saddles I have are the SC dressage for serious schooling/hacking and the SC event which I can do everything in.
