I've had my lovely boy in a bates saddle since i've had him but we are sadly on the widest gullet and will have to move on soon. Please could anyone suggest a saddle for a wide cob with big shoulders that will retain some freedom of movement? Looking for one that is comfy for me too as I find the Bates cob saddle I have right now gives me a numb bum after a while!

Thanks for your help :)

Kent and masters have a much flatter tree than Bates...so unless he has changed shape they won't fit.
Isn't there a Bates Wide saddle? Or is that what you have?

I have a Farrington which sits on mine nicely. Given up on anything jumping cut as no room on him with my legs so we do struggle a bit jumping bigger jumps as knees come up over the knee rolls riding shorter.

We have the wide, he is currently in a silver gullet so the widest it goes. I'll check out the Kent and masters, thanks for the suggestion :)

I've just checked with a friend who has a kent and masters and it seems like he has already grown out of the cob one! I didn't realise our last saddle was a kent and masters cob! I'll check out the other suggestions, thank you!

SMART Native saddle - every time! Genuinely wide enough for even a table top back, plus super comfy for the rider and you'll not need to worry about the saddle not fitting after a few months. I highly recommend that you peruse the website. My native GP saddle is officially my favourite thing in the world.

I don't find wintecs are the right shape personally, too banana shaped for cobs. They suit flatter trees I find. Just because it's an xxxw wintec, doesn't mean it's still not wide enough it's more than likely just not the right shape for him. Mine suits flatter panels, flat seat and low cantle.

Jeffries Event saddle. I have a dressage one on my cob, in a wide fit. He also has an event one but it rarely gets used!

I bought an XW one for my barrel of a Section C, lovely saddle and super comfortable. However he's now lost weight and is in his W fit again.

I have 5 Jeffries altogether, love them. They fit the wide flat backed types brilliantly, but a M also fits my TB type!

If you are anywhere near me you are welcome to try my XW one to see if something like it would be any use!
