Saddle Width

Usually (on ebay for example) people will ask for the measurement between the D rings to give an indication of size.

Are you selling one, or looking for one for your horse? If looking for a saddle, you could use a wire coathanger to produce a template over the withers of your horse to compare to standard measurements. I think Throwgood in their leaflets or maybe on their site will then do a comparison chart for you to work out the size you need.

Saddle fitting is an art though, and best done by somebody trained or very experieinced.

Oooh I have a Black MW dressage saddle for sale. It;s a Bates Caprilli, with cair, very good condition, 17.5".

Normally the seat and tree size are stamped into the leather on either the underside of saddle flaps or on the flap, uder the girth straps. i.e. 17.5 M (would be 171/2" seat, with Medium tree).

Good for you... I've come to the conclusion it is the only way to have a saddle made for your horse and this one size fits all nonsense can go in the bin.
