Hi i have a random question my new loan pony has a show saddle and im so small and his saddle is massive and hes a big pony so obviously bigger strides then im used to and i keep bouncing out in canter anyone got any tips ?

Having a saddle that fits you both is important to be comfortable and have a secure seat.

if this was me, if It is a long term loan which you are committed to - I’d get a saddle that fits both of us. Doesn’t have to be expensive! Functional and something that FITS

failing that, a gel out acavallo seat saver and grippy breeches and some lessons on the lunge to learn to go with the bigger movement.

I hate feeling swimmy in a saddle!

I have a lovely fluffy set saver that really helps. I had it made from an old sheepskin coat.

Best option is definitely a saddle that fits and suits you, and a good used leather saddle should resell for similar money so although it will tie up cash you won't be losing money over time. Second option is a seat saver, and adding bigger blocks if they're on velcro (which most show saddles aren't).

I know but that doesn't rule out having your own saddle for him, you need something you can ride well in otherwise it's a detriment to him, and unstable rider can make a horse sore, even if the saddle fits for the other rider. A seat saver will help a little, perhaps stirrup loops (half inch loops of leather that bring the stirrup leather further back on the bar), but they may not be enough.

I can't picture these - do you have an image out of curiosity? I don't think Google is showing me the right things...

Just ask a saddler/bridle maker to make you some, loops to go onto stirrup bars. They're literally a closed, stitched loop of leather but you won't find them for sale.
