My (very thin skinned and clipped) horse has rubs on his back from his saddlecloths. They all seem to rub him now - different shaped ones, and numnahs too. he has two little rubbed circles on either side of his back, exactly where the binding of the saddlecloth lies. I have a sheepskin half pad which I don't use - if I just used that under his (dressage) saddle, do you think that would cure the rubs? Or can anyone recommend a saddlecloth that doesn't rub! It looks dreadful.

Thanks!

Mine is the same and quite sore from them. I just make sure the clothe is well pulled back and up in the gullet. A Sheepskin half pad may well do the trick though.... I find the Nuumed High whither clothes rub least though....

Mine is the same, have invested in hi-wither but the damage is done and don't think they will go until coat change in spring. He has one more clip to go and i will leave a 1/2 saddle patch that is slightly longer this time- poor boy. Doesn't really get a chance to recover as he is in hard work at the mo.
His bridle also rubs so i think it must be his silly tb hair and soft skin (aahhh!)

It always happens to my boy at this time of year. He doesnt have a sore back, its just the shape of him and the way the saddle moves. Some horses it happens to and some it doesnt. My other boy is fine and they both have saddles that fit. I have tried different numnahs and pads but to no avail. My saddler says not to worry about it cos its to do with the coat changing.

Ditto - my last horse had these not long after I first bought him - got saddler out and he said was fine, just coat changing and it is quite common.

my horse had a prolite comfort saddle cloth on for past 12 months and shes now got rubs from it were the binding is round the edge not ver happy as cost 45! just bought her a polly pad last week which fits really well will have to wait and see if that rubs

Same as above - just due to coat loosening and cathing in seam - if I ride in a sheepskin cloth or half pad it dioesn't happen on my lad
