I am having trouble with saddlepads slipping backwards under the saddle on both my GP and Dressage, I tend to buy the cheaper brands such as Weatherbeeta and HY but i'm having problems with all of them.
Saddle has recently been checked so its not that causing the problem.

Can anyone reccommend some good brands to try?

Thanks

A stiffer pad with a felt lining and possibly a sheepskin collar at the front, they are stiff enough to feel like they could stand up on their own! Making sure the velcro lines up with your set up - dees or girth straps - and making sure they're snug. I like Mattes and they offer a vast range of custom options.

Also bear in mind that a pad slipping backwards, unless it's really shiny etc, often indicates that the saddle is trying to move forwards and likely indicates a milder version of the issues that cause saddles to actually run forwards. The include points too narrow, rails too narrow, tipping back are the most common, but any instability can, depending on how your horse moves and the saddle is fitted, cause saddles to run forwards.

I have one of these on my horse. It really helps. They are not cheap but cheaper than the first one the saddler recommended which was over £200!

It’s for a jump saddle but maybe they do something similar for dressage?

are you totally sure its not the saddle issue? I thought I had this issue with my saddle clothes, when I was using the shiny le mieux pads, so I swapped to the weatherbeeta pads and it wasn't so bad, but did still happen, but my saddle fitter actually said it was my saddle that was moving slightly forward as a rode, as it was a tiny bit too narrow. now its been adjusted I don't have any issues with slipping.

I am not sure whether the brand still exists but the YM suggested I buy a new nu med numnah for my share horse. The numnahs are regularly washed with all colours together and in the last pic hers was bluey grey. I dismount using the left stirrup and the saddle has never slipped.

I'm going to repeat the saddlepad moving is a reason to talk to a saddler. My saddlepad never moves (horse is wide & bum high but has regular saddle checks) and it only cost £12 (Shires)

My old horse was very adamant how his saddle fitted and my saddle fitter at the time got to know him and agreed he was way happier with his saddle being wider than she would have liked it ideally. A wool collar on the front and as above a stiffer pad made all the difference. I could only use PE Sheepskin numnah's on him. I mean I expect another brand, same style would have been ok but the sheepskin and big collar was the key I think- Also the fact the velcro was short and just attached to the D rather than the older fashioned round the girth straps.

If its velcro girth straps then you must use a girth strap that is actually fastened to the girth, and make it as snug as possible. Also consider putting both "sides" of the velcro under the strap.

I've found if saddle pads too small this can happen and it also seems to happen less on the ones shaped to have a wither.
